BRUSH/LAWN DISPOSAL:
Throughout the year, Brush and Yard waste may NOT BE PLACED IN CANS WITH YOUR REGULAR TRASH. THIS IS DELAWARE LAW. MBA will have such debris picked up on a schedule that varies according to the time of year. Through most of the year (late March through Labor Day weekend), this debris will be picked up weekly-usually on Tuesday. During September, october and November, this debris will be picked up every other week. There will be NO brush pickup from the end of November thru mid-March. During the winter, you may take your brush to any of several area brush landfills. One is operated by Blue Hen Organics; they charge $20 per ton, and reportedly have a $5 minimum fee. They are at 37527 Fox Run Rd, Frankford-on the west side of US 113. They are open Monday thru Saturday. Another option is Melvin Joseph Recycling on US 113 just south of Georgetown; they are only open Monday thru Friday. The DSWA landfill charges $82/ton, with a $7.50 minimum. Click HERE for a list from DSWA's website. During the season, all brush and yard waste must be placed in separate trash cans, or separate PAPER bags, or bundled for easy pickup. If bundled, brush should be cut into approximately 4' lengths; bundles should be no larger than about 2 ft in diameter. Individual logs of up to 4" in diameter may be bundled with other debris. You must use cotton string or other biodegradable material to tie the bundles; no plastic or wire ties are allowed. Under no circumstances may plastic bags be used to hold brush or lawn debris. Allied Waste WILL NOT empty any trashcan that has ANY brush or yard debris in it. This also applies to the trash cans at the beach walkways-please do NOT put any yard debris in them. HOUSEHOLD RECYCLING: Additionally, the new law requires trash haulers to OFFER household recycling, and to deliver a bin for single-stream recycling to each household. Household recyclables include most kinds of paper, glass and plastic bottles, metal cans, plastic grocery bags, etc. Click here for the official list of what can be recycled. Participation is OPTIONAL-you MAY toss household recyclables in with your regular trash. BULK TRASH/SPRING BRUSH PICKUP: MBA's regular Spring Brush Chipping and Bulk Trash Pickup will be held in early-mid May. You will be charged for removal of any such debris after the pickup. Click here for details. PICKUP SCHEDULE: Trash pickups will be: Mondays year around; Mondays and Saturdays in June, July and August. Household recycling pickups will be EVERY Friday in June, July and August, and every OTHER Friday in the offseason. Brush/Yard pickups will be EVERY Monday thru Labor Day. Click HERE for UPDATED collection schedule x If you have any containers that include both household trash and yard debris, you WILL BE BILLED BY RPM for separation and disposal of the mixed waste. |
