Neighbors, After considering all the varied views regarding the installation of showers at the exits from the beach and weighing the interests of the community as a whole, the MBA Board adopted a position that seeks to achieve a reasonable balance. We hope our decision will restore the comity and harmony that makes Middlesex Beach the friendly, neighborly place we desire it to be. In discussions, it was quickly decided that full showers were not necessary since people could use the ocean to clean the majority of the sand off their bodies before exiting the beach. On the other hand, the sand that people picked up on the walk to the road was of concern. Many in the community walk back to their properties and with the limited amount of beach side parking, that number continues to grow. Even with a thorough brushing with a towel, it is difficult to remove all the sand. Then, once you put on a shoe or sandal, the remaining sand becomes a probable source of abrasion, blisters and discomfort. Also, those who drive want to minimize the amount of sand they bring into the passenger compartment of their vehicles. |

With these factors in mind, it was decided that footshowers made sense and to keep harmony in the community, it was further decided that the owners on each side of the walkways and across the street from the exits would be consulted on the placement of the footshowers. The footshowers will be designed to afford beach goers the opportunity to wash their feet upon leaving the beach, which means the spigots will be low to the ground to discourage any other use. Drainage will be a paramount issue as well as making the location as inconspicuous as possible. The controls will be of the spring-loaded variety to ensure proper shut off between uses and a regular inspection schedule will be established to ensure they operate properly. Any concerns of neighbors presented to the board will be addressed as they come up. The board appreciated receiving all of the communications on this issue and believes that this compromise will best serve the interests of the entire community and make residing in Middlesex Beach an even better experience. Sincerely,
The Middlesex Board of Directors | |
