My wife Carolyn and I have vacationed in the Bethany area for over 35 years and in Middlesex Beach since 1998.
Since we sold our house in Alexandria in 2004, we now make Middlesex Beach our primary residence.
I was a Naval Officer, then a Mechanical Engineer and Attorney. I retired from Mobil Oil as a manager in International Negotiations, and have served on Housing and School Boards, and on Church Councils. I feel it is important that residents with skills and time to offer be willing to serve on the MBA Board and I'm willing to do my bit. I served as Secretary, and am currently Vice President. As Chair of the Security Committee, my primary Middlesex Beach objective remains the preservation of our valuable beach rights and our quiet community. |

My wife Peg and I have owned property in Middlesex Beach since 1999. We currently own two houses, one on the ocean, and one in the pines.
I am retired as a lawyer and as an owner and CEO of a medium-sized franchisor.
Peg and I spend about half of our time year 'round here in Middlesex Beach.
Our other home is in suburban Philadelphia.
I believe that for the past two years, I have been a positive force on the Board for the benefit of our Community. I make no secret of the keen interest I have in the health, strength, security, and well-being of our private beach. I believe it is the single most valuable and defining asset of our Community. If chosen for another term on the Board, I will, in addition to any other Board or committee assignments, always work to protect the welfare and value of our private beach. |

My first claim to fame after graduating from Michigan State University was to design for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Mo.
After Hallmark, I moved to Washington, DC, and married Jack Byrd.
We have lived 35 years in Washington, DC while working and raising our four children.
Selling design and commercial printing was my second career, followed by opening my own graphic design marketing firm: “Mary Byrd Productions, Inc. “ I’ve operated two locations: DC and Tampa, FL and managed 20 employees. It has been a privilege to design projects for: Marriott International, The Ritz-Carlton, The Catholic Health Association, WMAL Radio and others. The McCormick Paint logo was designed by my firm and has a retail outlet in Fenwick Island. Jack and I are the proud parents of three Eagle Scouts and a daughter who is Registered Nurse. We have vacationed in North Ocean City and the Bethany Beach area for over 25 years with our children. We are planning to move permanently in eighteen months to our Middlesex Beach home. We are going to enjoy some consulting, still life painting, bike riding and walks on the beach. It would be a great opportunity to work with the Middlesex Beach board in promoting family beach life plus serve the owners of Middlesex Beach Association. |

Our family has lived in Middlesex Beach for over 30 years.
We travel back and forth from our home in Columbia, Maryland beginning in April and continuing through October, spending as much time as possible in Middlesex.
We hope to make Middlesex our permanent residence in the very near future.
My wife Bette and I have two grown children and four grandchildren (soon to be five), who all enjoy spending time in Middlesex.
I was employed as a professional firefighter in the Washington D. C. Fire Department for 32 years, retiring at the rank of Battalion Fire Chief. As Battalion Fire Chief, I was responsible for overseeing the operation of seven fire companies; directing fireground and rescue operations and conducting the administrative duties of the battalion. During my career, I was in charge of the development and operation of the Fire Department’s Underwater Search and Rescue Program. These duties included developing and writing the “Standard Training and Operating Procedures” manual, procuring contracts for initial training and equipment, and overseeing the daily activities of the program. Once I retired from the Fire Department, I worked in the construction industry (both residential and commercial). Following that, I worked as a Home Inspector, inspecting commercial and residential buildings. I am now retired on a full-time basis. MBA has always had a strong, active Board. Now more than ever, because of the rapid growth in and around Bethany, a strong, vigilant MBA Board is needed to protect our interests. |
