The Seas Become Safer in December 2008-

We are pleased to announce that Cory Ciekot, member of our Beach Patrol from 2003-2008, will graduate in mid-December 2008 from the US Coast Guard, now Homeland Security, Rescue Swimmer Program. He will be one of only 300 Rescue Swimmers of this caliber in the world. The program started in 1985.

According to the USCG Cory and his peers endure physical and mental challenges that rival those facing any potential Army Ranger or Navy SEAL. The Coast Guard's rescue swimmers are the brave young men and women who drop from a helicopter into dangerous seas to rescue the rest of us.

The rescue swimmer school has one of the highest student attrition rates in the military. Roughly 75 students go through the school each year, and fewer than half graduate.

Cory has always done an exceptional job, starting years ago under Geoff Myers and Colin Crandell in Jr. Guards, and then as an accomplished Middlesex Beach Patrol Member, to now serving his country.

Congratulations to Cory and his proud family. Please note that his parents openly credit Cory's experience with Middlesex Beach Patrol as a significant foundation to his success in this distinguished program. As a community we are proud to have claim to him, in part, as our own.

Stay tuned, a more detailed article will soon follow from the press.

    Dear Middlesex Beach Community,

Foremost we would all like to extend to you our deepest gratitude for the opportunity to work at Middlesex Beach this past summer. We have all had an incredible experience and hope to continue working again next summer.

Secondly, on behalf of the six guards who stayed in the “Guard houses”, we would like to say thank you for the exceptional housing. Not only did you go out of the way to find us residencies, you also raised the bulk of the summer’s rent, making the rent affordable for us. This was greatly appreciated.

Last but not least, we would like to thank you , the community, for being such wonderful people. We have all worked other guarding jobs in the past; both open water and pool, and we all agree that this is where we want to be. You have all been wonderful and we truly can not thank you enough. Have a great winter and we look forward to seeing you in June.

    Thanks for a great summer,
    The 2006 Middlesex Beach Patrol
