Preparing for heavy rain-Leo cleans out one of our drainage boxes
    Thu 8PM update:

Coastal Areas are forecast to receive tropical storm-force winds of about 40mph, with gusts over 55. Waves are expected to be 5-10' in the surf zone. Deadly rip currents, minor tidal flooding, and up to 2" of rain are expected before the storm leaves the area Friday afternoon.

  • Some beach erosion is expected for Friday; Friday's high tides are predicted for roughly 3:30AM and 4PM. Lower lying areas at the west end of the pine side are subject to flooding, particularly around the times of high tides.
Please secure any lawn furniture, grilles, plants or other lightweight outdoor items before they become airborne missles. Now is probably a good time to take down any removable screens for the season.
While swimming, now AND thru the weekend, expect an elevated risk of rip currents. Both Earl and Fiona are doing a good job of "stirring up the bathtub". WHILE ON THE BEACH, PLEASE PAY PARTICULARLY CLOSE ATTENTION TO YOUR BEACH PATROL.
We do NOT envision any need to postpone the Community Meeting, or move it to a different location. Any announcements about this possibility, or any community brush pickup after the storm, will be posted here.
(due to the weather forecast, the Tribute to Elvis show scheduled for the Bethany Bandstand Friday night has been rescheduled for Sunday 8PM)
    Dear Middlesex Beach Community,

Thank you for providing me with the amazing opportunity to compete at USLA Nationals in Huntington Beach, California. I was honored to represent our tight-knit beach community. The funding and words of encouragement from all were a big part of getting me to California and helped me to attain my silver medal in the 2k Beach Run. Without your help and support, I would not have had this incredible and memorable experience. The following are my results at USLA Nationals:
    2k Beach Run – 2nd Place
4x100 Relay – 4th Place (Team of 4 girls from Middlesex, Sea Colony, South Bethany, Rehoboth)
Taplin Relay – 6th Place (Team of 4 girls from Middlesex, Sea Colony, Sea Colony, Sea Colony)
Swimmer Rescue Relay – 8th Place (Team of 4 girls from Middlesex, South Bethany, Rehoboth, Rehoboth)
Paddle Board Pick Up Relay – 10th Place (Team of 2 girls from Middlesex and South Bethany)
    Run-Swim-Run – 16th Place

    Sincerely, Lindsay Guenter
Additionally, Sussex County, DE (composed of all contestants from patrols up and down the coast) finished second to Los Angeles County, CA, which just goes to show the caliber of lifeguards in this area.

  • Middlesex Beach is on the lower Delaware coast of the Atlantic Ocean near Bethany Beach. It is located just north of South Bethany, and south of Sea Colony. The short business strip along DE 1 (Long&Foster, McDonald's, South Bethany Seafood, China Express, Shore Stop, Resort Quest etc.) is in our community.
