    Errett Road Drainage

  • General Description
The ditches along both sides of this road feed into the Kent Ave ditch. Water in the south ditch flows through a culvert under the extension of Errett Road, where it joins with water from the north ditch. This water continues northward, and crosses under Kent Ave at a point roughly halfway between Short and Bayberry Roads. It eventually finds its way to the Assawoman Canal.
    Past Work
In 2006, the portion of the south ditch in front of the substation was lowered and evened out. This ditch matches up nicely with the existing culvert at #2's driveway. This culvert is also a At this time, there are no plans to convert the portion of the ditch in front of the substation to buried pipe.

The culvert at #3 was completely obstructed for many years, which led to persistent flooding of several lots from #5 eastward. The MBA's 10' pole was put to good use, and in December 2009, after several attempts, this culvert was unjammed. The standing water level at the affected lots dropped almost immediately. In the photo at right, the location of the cracked ice that was on the surface of the water shows how much the level dropped in the affected yards.

In 2010, the north ditch between #1 and the fence was cleaned out and lowered. Overgrowth in and along the ditch was removed.

    January 2012 Work
Along the south side, the culvert at #4 (right) was collapsed and quite obstructed, and was replaced "out of turn", and the ditch between #2 and #4 adjusted as necessary. The rest of the south ditch will be evaluated for future work.

On the north side, the first 200' of the ditch beyond the fence was converted to buried pipe, after being lowered about 8". This will extend to just east of #3's driveway.

The culverts under driveways at #5 and #7 will be dug up and replaced with new 30' long culverts. The ditch through this entire stretch needs to be lowered by several inches, but advance surveying indicates that ALL sewer lines will still be well below the newly lowered ditch.
    Future Work
North side: continue to lower the ditch and replace culverts.
South side: surveying next 5-7 culverts; evaluating trees to be removed.
