    Beach Cleanup

    • During this past winter, Middlesex's Beautiful wide beach has collected a significant amount of material that can best be described as "straw". (There has also been an accumulation of larger debris-driftwood and the like- but these are frequently removed during my occasional post-storm exploratory rides along the beach. We also need to pickup anything non-biodegradable (bottle caps, beverage containers, etc). For the most part, we will be focusing on the portions adjacent the 5 community walkways.

    What else is needed?
  • Work gloves might be desirable.
  • Any kind of rake.
  • A cooler stocked with your family's favorite beverage (alas, this is a morning project)
  • If you're ocean-front, put your stereo speakers on the deck, and turn 'em up!

    What will the MBA provide?
  • An opportunity to help out your community.
  • 5 gallon buckets
  • trash bags
  • some sticks

    What do I do, and where?
  • NOW: sign up via this webpage so we have some idea of the turnout
  • Between NOW and THEN: check back on the MBA website
  • THEN: Meet on the beach-we'll start near Bridge Rd, and work in both directions. If you come late, just look for a collection of people.

    Why aren't we just paying someone to do this for us?
  • You'll get a chance to catch up with neighbors you haven't seen since last fall.
  • It will teach younger members of the community that keeping the beach clean is a difficult but necessary process, and hopefully they'll think twice before leaving any trash behind this summer.
  • It'll be fun...trust me...
  • And, for all you know, you might uncover a neat looking shell to add to your collection.

    What if it rains?
  • We'll get wet. This is the beach.
