Atlantic Assault: Sat 12:30PM update
Inlet Bridge has not yet been reinspected after the storm, but reportedly its tilt meters revealed significant displacement. Middlesex's dunes have held fast, but the dunes suffered some damage in Sea Colony, and significant damage in Bethany and South Bethany. There is virtually no wind at the moment, but lots of debris on our beach... |

Atlantic Assault: Fri 4:30PM update
Rt 1 near the Indian River Inlet has so much sand on it, it will remain closed for much of the weekend. The Bethany Post Office has 18" of water outside. The dunes in Bethany and South Bethany have been partially breached in the past 24 hours, and water is ponding between the newer dunes and the seawall in Bethany, and Ocean Drive in South Bethany. As night falls, and the tide peaks, small amounts of water are making it past our new dune fence and accumulating at the base of the older dune. |

Atlantic Assault: Fri 2:30PM update
I just returned from a quick trip around the pineside - lots of standing water at the west end, and on Kent Ave; trees down at 17 Bayberry, 5 Errett, 3 Addy, 127 Evergreen. RPM cut through the tree that fell across Bayberry about halfway back. I also took a slightly longer trip into Bethany. About 1/2 to 2/3rds of Bethany's new dune is gone... |

Atlantic Assault: Fri 9:30AM update
New dune fencing still in place, but has been battered by significant debris washing down from Bethany area. I'm a little mystified as to how some of the debris got where it is on our dues, but (again) I wasn't awake at high tide. Downed tree branches on Bayberry knocked out power to Middlesex for close to 5 1/2 hours yesterday afternoon. Delmarva Power had to replace significant portions of the distribution line near Beach Plum and Bayberry, and also further south along Rt. 1. The entire circuit was turned off while they made repairs. See these photos on the Salisbury Daily Times website taken in the area yesterday (numbers 6-9 were taken in the Middlesex area). North of town, Rt.1 was closed in both directions between the Inlet and Rehoboth after the dunes were breached. Fred Hudson Road also remains closed. |

Atlantic Assault: Thurs 11:40AM update
It is in fact incredibly windy, and will continue this way until Friday morning (another 2 high tide cycles); flood watch is posted thru Friday night. It's so fierce that if you're on the wrong part of Dune Rd you get hit in the face by windblown sand from the beach, and of course it's far worse on the actual beach. Not much rain at the moment, but forecast to pick up later today. I was not at our beach at yesterday afternoon's high tide, nor was I awake at this AM's 4:30 high tide. From what I can tell the ocean did not reach our dune fence either time. This is mostly because the new dune fence is nearly half buried in sand (and the older one is completely covered), so there's a nice rise in our beach at that point. I haven't been into town, but will hopefully be up that way near this afternoon's high tide. I imagine their dunes will be impacted through the entire high/low tide cycle over the next 36+ hours. Upcoming high tides: Thursday: 4:30PM; Friday: 5AM, 5:30PM. Pineside: LOTS of small debris on most streets. Bridge and Errett, having powerlines on the north side and therefor no trees right at the street, are fairly clear. No widespread evidence of limbs down on individual lots, so although MBA will need to clean small branches, pinecones and needles from our streets, at this time we do NOT envision a community-wide brush cleanup. Most loose branches can be stuffed into individual member trashcans. Ditches along Kent Ave are full, and are backing up into MB. |
